Description: Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Primary Purpose/Function:
Provide leadership and direction for all District efforts to improve student academic performance. Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall instructional program of the district.
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in Educational Administration/Leadership, Counseling, or Curriculum and Instruction
Appropriate Texas Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work closely and effectively with staff and students
Skill in the delivery of quality-focused customer service
Experience: Classroom experience as a teacher (3 years)
Instructional leadership, Counseling, or principalship (2 years)
Major Responsibilities/Duties:
- Direct and supervise instructional and curricular services to meet the needs of the students and teachers of the district.
- Facilitate the alignment and development of K-12 curriculum based upon continuing systematic review and analysis.
- Collaborate with instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials, including textbook adoption, to meet student learning needs.
- Manage the district’s testing program and requirements for K-12, including state assessments and district assessments.
- Work cooperatively with other departments, campuses and the community to ensure the provision of both a comprehensive and effective educational program.
- Provide leadership and direction in the vertical development of curriculum, and in the collaboration among and between campuses.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs with teachers and principals, including effective instructional strategies and assessment.
- Ensure that district goals and objectives are developed using a collaborative process and problem-solving technique when appropriate.
- Ensure principals of all campuses are trained in and are utilizing effective instructional leadership practices.
- Review and analyze data, including student achievement data, to examine and improve the effective delivery of the instructional program.
- Assist in developing professional development based on an effective needs assessment process and assist in planning workshops, seminars, and conferences and securing resource personnel to conduct staff development activities for district personnel.
- Coordinate the Site-Based Decision Making Process and District Improvement Plan and assisting in the development of district goals and objectives using collaborative processes and problem-solving.
- Assist in the recruiting, interviewing, screening, and recommending of qualified candidates for positions in the district.
- Monitor professional research through reading, conference attendance and other professional growth experiences and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
- Coordinate all special programs including GT, 504, Dyslexia, At-Risk, and ESL.
- Manage student data through TXEIS and academic related programs.
- Ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently
- Evaluate and special program budgets and cost estimates which are based upon documented program needs.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including monitoring of Accountability and State reports.
- Complete all Federal Applications for funding and subsequently submission of compliance reports.
- Demonstrate an awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise Instructional Services district-wide and coordinators other staff.
